THE CHRYSLER IMPERIAL
Originally an up-market Chrysler, Imperial had been established as a separate make in 1954, and with the emergence of the dramatically restyled 1955 models the brand began to establish a personality of its own. The '55 Imperials were nothing less than sensational: styled by the great Virgil Exner along the lines of his Parade Phaeton show-cars, they featured full-length waistline trim, a startling 'egg-crate' front grille (divided to accommodate the Imperial eagle crest) and audacious 'gun sight' taillights that were unique to the make. Based on the Chrysler New Yorker, the Imperial featured Chrysler's classic 331 cubic-inch Fire Power V8, featuring performance-oriented hemispherical cylinder heads. Power-assisted steering and power-operated brakes were all standard equipment on all Imperials.
THE MOTOR CAROFFERED
According to the official Chrysler production record and a copy of the original factory build sheet on file, this 1955 Chrysler Imperial Newport was constructed during July of 1955 and sold new through Town & Country Motors, Inc. of Indianapolis, IN. The new Chrysler was optioned as it appears today, with the Coupe bodywork finished in Sunburst Yellow, and the interior trimmed in Gold 'V' pattern materials, with white bolsters. A Custom Conditioner Air Heater was fitted as well, a very rare air conditioning option still seen on the car today. This Chrysler's livery has been named 'Springtime Edition', and this very car from John White's Ramshead Collection is believed to be the sole surviving example.
Sporting the elegant Newport Coupe body style, the Chrysler has been treated to restoration work over the years as needed, and today presents in beautiful condition throughout. The striking Sunburst Yellow exterior color is topped by a Platinum White roof and has a great shine to it, along with all the elegant stainless-steel trim and chrome. Throughout this stylish and chic Chrysler, one finds so much detail to the trim throughout the car. Inside the sunburst theme follows through in the interior livery, where a Town & Country radio is fitted. Featuring legendary Chrysler performance thanks to the potent 331 cubic-inch Fire Power Hemi engine out front, this 'Springtime Edition' Newport has a strong expression of power and luxury.
